Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals

UN GHS aims to unify different classifications and labels on chemical substances in each country to an internationally accepted format, such as the MSDS.

There are 27 classification of hazards that provides information about physical hazards, health hazards, and environmental hazards.

Preparation of MSDSs and Classification and Labels in accordance with GHS/SDS Regulations in Korea and Overseas

  • Businesses handling chemical substances in Korea must follow the hazard classification and labeling of chemicals, and prepare the MSDSs in compliance with K-REACH, CCA, OSHA, and Act on Safety Control of Hazardous Substances.
  • MSDSs and warning symbols must be displayed in the business sites and provided to downstream users.

  • From 2021, chemical products/substances newly introduced to Korean market must submit their MSDS to MoEL, and any CBI information to be masked as trade secret on the MSDS must be approved under Non-disclosure Approval prior to manufacture/import.
